While Veronica may have been more COMFORTABLE at Victoria’s Secret, Betty preferred to save up for the rare trip to the bubblier, and so much less-intimidating side of the store. She’d picked out two new pairs recently, and had gone through her day feeling PRETTIER than usual, with a teal and buttercup yellow secret that had her smiling to herself for no apparent reason.
“ Thanks, ” she says, ducking her head behind her locker door. What was wrong with her? She’d changed in front of other girls all the time. In front of Veronica, hundreds. This was fine, this was normal. But she could have SWORN she’d seen appreciation for more than just silk, or whatever gravity defying fabric this was made of, on Veronica’s face.
Maybe it was a trick of the light? Maybe it was just wishfulthinking. Whatever it was, Betty brushed it off. She fingered the strap of the bra lightly. Well. At least her taste in underwear clearly wasn’t all that bad.
