why are reggie and betty your otp?

oh b o y o h BOY OH BOY !!!!! I was actually considering writing a meta about this??? OFC these are just my opinions, but I think it’s like p simple tbh. In all the fanfics I read, they focused around the idea of like Betty being second fiddle and everything, and like Reggie reminding her that she isn’t second fiddle and god damn if that ain’t some kind of attractive cliche juicy romantic notion. Like, to me I just really love that? Betty deserves people that don’t hesitate over her. 

Of course there’s also the whole bad boy / good girl, kind of thing going on. And I love the idea of them having been friends from childhood and losing touch a little and then reconnecting, like there were so many things that could be done with them as a pairing, and all of them appeal to my love of cheesy YA. It’s like fuckin catnip to me!!! 

Also like, Reggie deals with his fair share of feeling second-best and I feel like he can really relate to Betty??? I feel like they could bring out really fantastic qualities in one another, and I feel like Betty, despite being wary of him sometimes, because she tries to see the best in people, always fights to see the best in him. She pushes him to be the best version of himself, and I feel like he does the same for her. Of course their ship wouldn’t be perfect all the time, and there’s a lot of potential pitfalls. Outside opinions, for one thing, would be a huge problem. Her parents, his friends, her friends, all of them weighing in on something that doesn’t concern them. 

And like a huge part of why I think Reggie would be good for Betty is because I feel like, if he is a bit selfish, he can remind Betty that it’s okay to do things for herself. I feel like sometimes she makes decisions for other people and doesn’t always take time for herself, and I feel like he’d remind her that’s okay. 

IDK OKAY I JUST SHIP THEM OK, I’M WEAK FOR ALL THE TROPES THEY REPRESENT. And I know the comics have like, explored them as a thing a few small times, and like, let’s not forget when Archie chooses Veronica to marry, Betty and Reggie are a thing and they absolutely slaughtered me with cuteness, like I cannot, god that run was one of my favorites my Retty heart was THRIVING!!!! 

I could go on and on and on and on FOREVER TBH. 

Truly, Riverdale could have done so much with them as a pairing, and instead they give me Bughead. Honestly what kind of garbage shipname even is that!!!!
