SILENCE.
Only the echoes of the woods hung in the air; a twig cracking beneath someone’s sole or the high-pitched calls of an owl from overhead. They were all doing their best to stay dead silent as they solemnly navigated the woods, a funeral dirge playing quietly in everyone’s eardrums. They all had someone to MOURN.
Eventually they made camp in a clearing of trees, ones thick with unburned leaves, looking as though they were there long before the bunch of them, and would be there LONG after. Betty had never felt so small or insignificant. That was before she looked up and caught all the stars . “ Woah, ” she couldn’t help but breathe, stomach unclenching for a moment. She didn’t notice Cheryl beside when she sighed, “ Beautiful. ”
