❝   calm down, nancy drew. not like you just caught a murderer — it’s mac and cheese.   ❞   really, he’d be laughing about this if he didn’t think betty would beat him senseless for it, given the mood she’s in right now; he was surprised she didn’t have steam coming out of her ears. reggie was still clutching the tupperware to his chest, arms wrapped around to both protect it should she decide to snatch it out of his hands, and to help trap the heat in.   ❝   it’s not like it’s a big deal. if you leave it in the microwave for too long, it’s gonna get stolen. law of the jungle, princess.   ❞   even he could admit he was being even more of an obnoxious ass than usual, but there was something goading him on. it almost felt like being back in high school again — or worse, elementary school,  when he’d tug on a girl’s pigtails as a way of letting them know he “like liked” them.

         “ I’m about to just COMMIT a murder, more like, ” she countered, dryly. “ Yes, Reginald, my mom’s mac and cheese which has been going missing for three weeks in a row now! ” Her voice steadily grew quieter until its nothing but a HISS. Never take a girl’s food ––– it’a simple rule, and yet he was determined to break it over and over and over again! Betty couldn’t be held accountable for the consequences now. “ Law of the jungle? ” She repeated, staring at him in disbelief. “ It’s college, not the Amazon, G.I. Joe. ” This is how it goes, and despite the annoyance that’s definitely still there, there’s a warmth of familiarity. This banter she’s missed, that stupid look in his eyes, the BICKERING like a ––– NOPE. 

Throwing her head back, she decided to approach this another way. Shoving down her embarrassment, Betty sidled up to him, batting her lashes, but all the while wondering if she didn’t just look like she had something in her eyes. “ Reggie… will you please… ” Nope. Nah. Can’t do it. “ Just give it back, ” she snapped, facade crumbling right there and then. “ Come on. I’m hungry and I swear I will TACKLE you right now if you don’t. ”
