teeny tiny headcanon: betty recognizes that…

hey just wanted to step in as a friendly member of the lgbtq+ community and let you know that bisexuality and pansexuality are not “essentially the same thing” as they are not the same and should not be lumped together. This is harmful toward people that identify with one or the other and can cause them to feel like their individual identity is non existent but rather categorized carelessly with another

I absolutely understand where you’re coming from; i am bisexual myself and used to believe that there was an innate difference, but bisexuality as I’m aware of it is defined by most people (of course you can have your own definition for it, I suppose ) as the attraction to two or more genders, regardless of what those genders are. i’m not sure if the distinction you’re making is that bisexuality only means “two” but bisexuality should’t be assumed as binary ––– despite its name. historically speaking, i believe the bisexual community didn’t name itself. this blog I follow defined the “difference” really well imo.

feel free to correct me via im/ask however; the information I’ve received could be wrong and I am always open to understanding if I’m incorrect, and having a conversation about it.

    2. fantabuloushq said: It is most certainly up to the individual to decide what their identity means to them just like your bisexuality being two or more genders. Saying it is “the same as pansexuality” though makes it sound as though there is no need for the term, first of all, and discredits a pansexual person’s way of identifying. So it’s okay to say bisexual to you or for Betty is 2+ or that she identifies as Pan even or that she goes back and forth, etc. I wanted to speak up as I identify as pansexual.
