Betty wanted to have a nice, long TALK with who’d ever said Reggie Mantle was not a GOOD GUY. They’d clearly never seen him like this. Betty had never seen him like this, and with that nervous smile on his face, she nearly wished she hadn’t because her heart was melting into ooey-gooey nothings that slipped between her ribs to SPLAT at the bottom of her stomach with an echo. She felt that smile all the way through her body.
The food, for what it was worth smelled amazing. She couldn’t find fault in it if she wanted to, and she half-suspected he might have taken pointers from a certain lice Cooper, if she didn’t know any better. Maybe she didn’t.
Everything she thought she’d known about Reggie was getting thrown out the window, and to say the least, Betty hardly minded it.

“ Gosh, Reg, this looks incredible. ” She marveled at the pasta and the thick cream it came drenched in. Being as they were both athletes, cream was a huge no-no but.. it was the off-season and it was their six-month anniversary and… she liked to believe they’d earned it. It hadn’t been an easy year, for either of them, but they’d made it through TOGETHER.
“ Thank you for doing all this, ” she said, sincerely. His hand was warm in hers hen she reached for it. She didn’t have to say it, but it was rare when others did something so GENEROUS for her –– not that she minded. This dinner touched her all the more for it. “ You’re sweeter than anyone gives you credit for, you know that, Mantle? ”
