Betty dead-eyed him. “ I’m not going to get my mom a candle, Jughead, ” she sighed, exasperated at having to state the obvious. Moments later, she conceded, “ even if she does love them… it’s such a GENERIC gift, and she really deserves something bigger… better… I got her a candle last year, I can’t get her one again. ”
Golly, she was really starting to sound like Veronica. But this year was different than the others and deserved a little materialism. With Betty’s accident and all the strain it had put on the whole Cooper family, she needed to see her mom and dad happy, she needed to gift them everything they’d never dare to buy for themselves. The only problem was, those were the things she couldn’t quite afford.
“ I think… Mom’s been DYING to go get her hair and nails done at the Riverdale Social Spa… maybe I could do some odd-jobs there and in exchange get her a gift certificate…. Hey, Jug, doesn’t Ethel work there? ” Betty pressed her lips together, the plan already formed in her head.
Run, Jughead. Run now.
